Does anybody know anything about this, please?

"The UK is one of the only countries in the world where the harmonic variables used to calculate tide tables are deemed to be a copyright of the Crown. Currently Her Majesty's Government is requiring payment by any who wish to use and publish this data. As an aid to the safety of all shipping around the coast of Great Britain it is requested that this data be made available to any who require it, and who wish to publish the results either on paper or electronically."

Robin,
Had no idea such a petition existed. If I had would have added my signature but notice that time has now run off.Looking at the tides in several years time is sometimes essential for us.Take our Centenary Celebrations back in 1992.We had great problems being sure of how much water in the river (Fireworks ect). Also had to choose dates for the all important Regatta well in advance.Hope someone takes notice.
In Sailing,David.

It seems we can at least take comfort in the fact that the response considerably exceeded the arbitrary quantity the procedures have established to make a reply from Number 10 mandatory.

If only Sir Edward Heath were still in charge . . .

I should be interested to know if anybody saw this advertised anywhere (before the closing date).
