Spring Series - Are you ready for this?

At the Sailing Meeting on Sunday, Robin and David implored some extra use of the forum, so even in the absence of anything to really chat, about here we go.

Who's going to be out to play for the Spring Series?

I'm looking forwards to the sailing much more than the task of cajoling my lazy bugger crew out of warm Sunday morning beds. Barda is being dropped back in the drink tomorrow, though my ambitious winter refit did end up as little more than a splash of new anti-foul and the removal of a very dead pasty from the back of the oven.

Although team Barda will hopefully be up to strength, how about everybody else? There must be crews of all abilities out there wanting to have a go, and this forum is the perfect place in which to find yourself a ride. If you don't ask you don't get.

Oh and don't forget the rules seminar on Wednesday evening at the club house. As a club we need to be aware of how things have changed since last year, especially with the Sussex Regatta looming.

Anyway if you are going to be on the 2009  Spring Series start line 8 March post your intentions here - it would be brilliant to get a big fleet out to really kick start the season.

Agreed in every respect, Steve, but special stress on Robin S's seminar, from which chaps like me (blessed with less to unlearn) hope to benefit particularly.

Seconded on both points!

I trust, Steve, you will be using this august organ to elaborate on your Royal Escape Race plans?

Robin, I shall be putting up the Royal Escape material on the main website as that's where non-members will be looking for it... I will of course use this august organ to post reminders etc. although as Race Day 22 Feb is my wedding anniversary I shall have to remember to make best use of some other organs as well. Pip pip.

Clearly understood that the main SYC website will be the source of definitive RER info.  This Forum eagerly looks forward to some real-time speculation along the way.  Skippers with berths for crew, Crew in quest of a ride . . . good sailing!

Once again well said.(See under pursuiting for further Parish Notices )
Moonlight Saunter will not be in at the start as I am lifting out for the essential work but towards the end of March I will be wallowing round after the hotshots.Resist the temptation to sit in the bar and talk a good race-come out and join us.
By the way I have the encouragement of my 2009 TCC with a secret weapon up my sleave-the mind boggles!

Shame you wont be there to see the unvieling of the new paint job and renaming of the Tub.

Cant wait to see if the money spent with ashdown marine to get teh bottom super smooth was worth it but more importantly get sailing again fed up of looking at the car park!!

See you all Sunday

The weather isn't looking very promising for the first race - online wind boffins pointing at a solid F4 with gusts through the day to F8. There's a few days for things to change, but I'm not going to break the boat (or crew) on our first 2009 outing.

not getting sensitive and worrying about the crew are you steve? They are a dispensible item that can be replaced...... The boat however is an entirely different matter and fully agree with your statement, when would you make a descision if you will be going or not?

If weather is looking solidly stupid I call it on the night before, if forecasts are marginal then I wait until 6.30 am on race day and text decision to crew.

If you decide to can it can you drop me a text as well as we will probably make the same call but dont want to give you an easy win so early in teh season!

Sure we will do beers whatever the wind blows!

As ever, my sympathy is with the Race Officer.

For an example, see the 'Thread' on Christmas Cracker 4 elsewhere in this forum!

I fully agree with your sentiments but it is the individual boats responsibility to race or not, fundimental rule 4. As long as the race officer can safely set a start finish line and safely conduct a race the race officer of the day should always be in a possition to run a race if enough boats to constitute a race come to the starting area.

Failure to do this could make both the club and/or the individual liable should anything happen no race should ever be abandoned until the last possible moment so that all elements can be concidered in real time unless it is absolutely obvious.
