Barda will be racing to Dieppe for the first time next Friday - have any of you seasoned skippers got any tips for greenhorns? Do we need to take anything other than jeans? Oh and who's going?

Not as simple as going to the solent (keep the land on your right) or Eastbourne (keep the land on the left) what you need to do is to keep the land behind you for the first half. Now comes the tricky bit after exactly half way the trick is to keep the land in front of you.

As far as to clothing i can only give you the advice my mother gave which was to ensure you have clean underpants on especially if you choose to follow the ferry!!

Have fun

Thanks for all the useful tips. I shall instruct my crew to pack as many pants and socks as they can carry - in fact rather than going to Somerfields to stock up the boat on nonsense like food I think we'll drop in to Marks and Sparks.

We are hoping for very peaceful crossing as Jason has become partially deaf, and rather than shouting he's simply stopped talking...mind you there is a rumour we'll have our new sails on Thursday so we'll see if the silence persists when we find nothing fits.
