I noticed that at the June MAIN COMMITTEE under membership.
"Dski commented that the membership trend is going down and
SYC needs to work to keep current Members and generate new."
and
"LW stated that SV's committee needs to look at membership and
how to retain. The Club should be aiming at 1500 Members."

Does the club have a way of tracking new members to ensure they have settled in and are enjoying the club facilities and opportunities - like a form of member retention focus, which would help channel people to find aspects of the club where they fit in and get the most out of it to ensure continued membership ?

Alot of sense in that. But isnt the point of it so that it can be shared with the 'combined clubs' and their hospitality can be extended to visiting yachtsmen, and facilities can be enjoyed after an invigorating passage to a new destination for a special weekend of camaraderie  etc etc. with eagerly awaited return favours from the next host the following year.

But the reality is perhaps a bit different.

There would need to be some additional aspect of 'combined clubs' to make it special otherwise it will just be another race at Brighton.

And of course there are the clubs' political aspects to overcome.

Anyone else ..... ?

Several boats are looking for crew this season - check out the Shoreham Clubhouse notice board.

Get in early and you might get the chance of being a regular crew .......

An excellent event with BMYC - a few quizzes followed by discussion and explanation from the very knowledgeable Alan Basel. Also a number of videos of match racing action and subsequent protest decisions and the background thereto.

Good curry too apparently  :P

Sailing Section General Discussion / Cleaning oilies
October 03, 2011, 07:41:56 PM
Anyone got any good methods of cleaning oilies  ... they are a set of musto coastal / offshore and are quite salty and have started to show slight mould - they have been stored in a closed locker for a while.

Ive read that you can stick em in the washing machine on warm gentle cycle, but not sure what kind of detergent to use - some say small amount of non bio?? Or you can buy some stuff called nikwax (?) as a cleaner or waterproofer i think.
