Having entered the Forum (Feel like Frankie Howard !!)I will try yet another avenue in an attempt to persuade those of you who can,will,want to go to sea to enter our Saturday Pursuit Races.We have fun.Its not serious.The "rules" are on our main SYC site.Dudley once achieved 22 starters!I am a dismal failure in comparison.Please come and join us.

As section captain I am embarrassed that I so infrequently take part in the Pursuit Racing. For me it is simply a time issue. Working full time, Saturdays are valuable time to deal with matters domestic. I guess I am not alone in this?? Just a thought. Lot's of clubs run evening races in the week. Pursuit races on a Wednesday evening followed by a beer at the club?? What do folk think?

Good idea Robin.
The timing and the beer afterwards would reinforce the sociable and fun aspects of Pursuiting, and hopefully skippers and crew who are too busy on a Saturday would have time to take part in a Wednesday evening series.
Assuming you could be ready to go out on a 7 o'clock lock, with say 100 minutes for a race, then the lock in probably at 9.30; plus time spent securing the boats afterwards - pursuiters will need to embark on a diet of carrots!

Idea of a Wednesday evening needs careful thought.I know that it has proved popular at Brighton but they can get on and off the race course in minutes.With us carrots could well be required.Would an early start time-say 16oo ish-appeal.Always of course subject to King Canute! Better if all yachties gave up work.
I assume that tides would dictate fortnightly races over a few summer weeks during May-July before the evenings draw in too much.
Great! 11 Boats out on Saturday.Thankyou to all who supported.It was especially pleasing to have the two Sailabillity Sonars with us-in fact one of them-Geronimo was first across the line.Another newcomer to our ranks was Jeboch-a J109 from Brighton Marina-who did a Wow and steamed through the fleet to 3rd place.Lovely day and close pursuiting.Last race in the first series on 16th June.Cant be there myself as I have "Volunteered" to organise the Club Open Day.It will of course happen and its tight at the top for the Malt Whisky.Have fun.

the way the fleet started compressing around what i persist in calling Del Buoy was a sight to behold and the final sprint to the old sewer outfall was exhilarating!

Really please that you all had a good race on Saturday and that numbers are up. A note of caution, we may confuse our new participants if we use old names for the marks. 1 and 6 as detailed in the handbook will do fine chaps!!
you are manifestly correct, esteemed one, and in the interests of clarity i will endeavour to amend my slovenly dinosaur ways.
the trouble is that "6" does not convey the same romantic aura as the old sewer outfall!
