Title: Pursuiting
Post by: markys on February 23, 2009, 03:02:05 PM
Steve V makes the case for joining the Spring Series on the 8th March, but also do not forget the First Pursuit series starting on the 21st March.
For those of you who are not sure about racing or want to polish your crew and your own skills, Pursuit racing could be the answer. A simpler format is used. Still based on the club handicapping, the start times are adjusted in line with the boats handicap. So starts are staggered and the boats race for the finish line with the first across the line is the winner. No delays waiting whilst the computer works it all out.
There is a friendly rivalry between the boats and the finishes tend to be close allowing an interesting range of boat to boat banter.  Wether you are racing against a "surfing" Sonar or a larger boat with a skipper who cant see over the wheel, racing in real time on the water sharpens all the senses and pushes you to sail better. If you need further information Please contact David Skinner who kindly organises the races, via the club, or use this forum.

An additional advantage of Pursuiting is that the racing should be over in approximately 100 minutes of the start time.  When high winds prevent vocal exchanges, the friendly banter is generally semaphored with winch-handles.

Well said. Not white knuckle racing but it`s fun and a bit of what our Club is all about.Forget "the little poeple" at your peril-especially those who can hardly see over their steering wheel.Looking forward to seeing more of you out with us this season.Let`s hope the weather is a little kinder than in 2008.

We have had two races in the first series so far with the third comong up this Saturday.
8 boats in the first race so hopefully we will attract you all out on the water. With fickle winds so far it has been a problem getting the length of the course about right but we try and have little influence over the wind.Always been one off my difficulties.
