Title: PHAB?
Post by: Steve Vyse on May 09, 2007, 11:12:52 AM
With this being my first season on a proper boat rather than a J24 there are some real mysteries on our fixture list for me, the largest of which is PHAB. What is it?

Hi Steve,

PHAB stands for Physically Handicapped and Able Bodied.

Each year Sussex Yacht Club holds a race and rally to Brighton on the weekend preceding the Royal Escape Race.

During this weekend Sussex Yacht Club have, for many years, taken members of Sussex PHAB for a sail from Brighton Marina, including a picnic afloat. Unfortunately last year's rally and PHAB sail had to be cancelled due to extremely strong winds.

You can see pictures on the main Sussex Yacht Club website at: www.sussexyachtclub.org.uk (http://www.sussexyachtclub.org.uk) under the Royal Escape Race article.

If you want to know more about the work of PHAB, you can do so from their website at: www.phabengland.org.uk (http://www.phabengland.org.uk)

The annual PHAB event too place over this last weekend 20 May.

Many thanks to Jill Burnett for all her hard work organising this event.  We all had a great time taking the PHAB guys out sailing off Brighton.

The sun shone and a gentle breeze blew...smiles all round

Great work Jill
