At the last Keelboat AGM it was stated that some of the smaller boats in the club no longer turned out for races as they felt they were not able to compete with the faster boats in the fleet.
As a result of this the Keelboat Committee agreed to look at the possibility of splitting the fleet for the Summer Series and offering different courses for the boats rating (for example) PY1000 and above.
This division will only work if sufficient 'slower' boats are interested in racing the Summer Series so my question is simple: Which boats out there would be interested in competing in such a series?
Neil
Sorry to be slow in responding
I would be interested if there was a sufficinent take up but otherwise I would rather go in the larger more populated races as a well sailed Sonata should really be keeping up with quite a few of the much bigger boats
my hunch is that there will be insufficient interest for a split fleet so i am quite prepared and happy to keep on improvign my skills until I can keep up with the big boys!
thanks
Ben
Thanks for your comments Ben.
I was beginning to think everyone had taken a vow of silence on this one.
Is there anyone else out there with a view on this?
Neil I think the silence on this may be due to the smaller boats not being on the forum - there was some fairly solid support voiced at the Keelboat meeting last year. Perhaps it would be better to contact the smaller boats directly with a letter?
Neil,
I posted a reply soon after this item was raised. I can't see it on this page. Did you see it? Essentially the point I was making was for OODs to be given authority to set a course for boats with PYs of 1000 or over if 3 or more of them arrive at the start line. Set a two lap course for the fast PYs with the slower PYs doing only one lap. Same rules apply with regard to the number of races completed on this basis. Unfortunately I will not be taking part in the Summer series mainly because I will be away for the 4 race event. My crew might though. They're still thinking about it. Please let me know your decision soon as I am OOD for race 3
Godfrey
Thank you very much for that Godfrey. I'm sorry but I didn't see your initial response.
I think the splitting of the fleets as you suggest has real merit and is something I would like to try out probably from Summer Series 2. (It's too late for race 1 and David from Keltic C is OOD so that's one less for the PY1000+ fleet!)
I will obviously make a formal announcement as soon as the final decision on format has been taken.
Thanks once again for your ideas, please keep them coming.
