Hi Steve

It was aparent from early last week that numbers would be low however the office confirmed to me that 6 boats would be attending and on that basis (after liaising with Alan Saunders) I estimated 30 peopel would turn up to the dinner in St V.

I did my best and corresponded several times with Soc de Regatte de Fecamp and also with the office and via forum however it seems that support this year was not good. I welcomed the french sailors into port on the Wednesday evening as well.

I heard some grumblings/heckling in my direction from the syc bar as I walked by the club yesterday so I guess the numbers dwindled further?

Perhaps the lack of numbers is partly due to the new date as I know a lot of people are preparing for Cowes and Fastnet (including me) and this was my only weekend off sailign for the whole summer.

Will raise at keel boat committee.

Well done to you all for what sounds like quite an adventure in any event!

Without wishing to be dull I also think that the event this year was extremely well organised and efficiently administered.

The flat light and gloomy weather didn't spoil my weekend and those that were eager to try their toys out on the way home were surely smiles all round with the extra puff of wind we encountered! A nice contrast to the rather tranquil but tiring race conditions.

I particularly liked the friendly shouts of hello from the race officers mob on the end of the breakwater - rather nice to be welcomed to france like that.

Well done and thank you to Jill and her committee for organising.

Bet the Round Eddystone (this weekend) will not be as sociable!

cheers

Sorry to be slow in responding

I would be interested if there was a sufficinent take up but otherwise I would rather go in the larger more populated races as a well sailed Sonata should really be keeping up with quite a few of the much bigger boats

my hunch is that there will be insufficient interest for a split fleet so i am quite prepared and happy to keep on improvign my skills until I can keep up with the big boys!

thanks

All

Thanks to all SYC yachts attending the rally in Brighton.

Some good weather on Saturday made for an exciting ride for all down to Brighton.

My thanks to Jill and Tony for organising the PHAB day which, as a first timer, I thought went very smoothly.

Finally, I would like to thank John and crew of Flyover for rescuing me on the way home yesterday and towing me back from Brighton all the way to my berth at Southwick. I will buy you a big pint in the bar when I next see you!

Cheers

Hi

My limited experience of the regatta over the last two years involves one failed attempt getting to Eastbourne in the first place (on my sonata) and this year crewing aboard Truant.

I think Steve V's comments are pretty much bang on in that the outcome of whether we should continue rotating largely revolves around how we see the event growing in years to come.

Eastbourne has my vote for a serious racing regatta given its facilities and access for boats from sussex and kent.

Whilst loyal to SYC and the Brighton area generally my vote would be to keep it in Eastbourne and accept that small boats will occasionally struggle to get there!

I hope the forum provides some useful input Robin.

Robin

Thanks for this.

I too have have been giving this some thought.

One possibility would be to race straight to Cowes on the Friday finishing on the Royal Yacht Squadron line.  If we had a slightly earlier start and a time limit on the race (say 6pm) then this would work well in conjunction with a celebratory dinner at the Island Sailing Club or similar.

Saturday could then be a gentle amble to Bembridge to coincide with HW for entry over the ledge there - very good yacht clubs there too and we could have a dinner there.

A race around the eastern solent before heading up to Itchenor might be nice to shake out cobwebs prior to the tried , tested and enjoyed dinner with Silas and the gang at the Ship.

We can discuss at committee but this is one revised format that might work well and add some spice to what is already a successful & popular event.

I welcome ideas / suggestions from all.

Best

Just to support Robin's email I also think this is a good idea.
As a member of Robin's committee I will also ensure the idea is properly aired at our next meet mid may
