Can anyone tell me why we still do not have the overall results for the Spring Series races posted on the web site.

Neil,
I posted a reply soon after this item was raised. I can't see it on this page. Did you see it? Essentially the point I was making was for OODs to be given authority to set a course for boats with PYs of 1000 or over if 3 or more of them arrive at the start line. Set a two lap course for the fast PYs with the slower PYs doing only one lap. Same rules apply with regard to the number of races completed on this basis. Unfortunately I will not be taking part in the Summer series mainly because I will be away for the 4 race event. My crew might though. They're still thinking about it. Please let me know your decision soon as I am OOD for race 3

As a bilge keel boat sitting on a mud birth in the river I usually need three hours before high water and three after HW. This is probably what the boats in the lock prefer as well. A race over high tide suits me perfectly provided the start is between 2 and 3 hours before HW. The race on 10th June could have done this with with a 7: 00 am start. Who would have turned up for that time anyway? I certainly would, but that is only me perhaps others could say whether they would. As it turned out, the start at 13:10 gave me about 30 mins before being trapped out of my mooring over low tide. I was happy to do this for this race, as I was competing for a place in the PY results, but, when it was cancelled 15 minutes before the start when I received the information, I only just back on my mooring having to pull it in over the mud in the last seconds of a falling tide. I was not too pleased!
I do understand the difficulties of trying to fit all the races in to suit the tides but surely getting up early to meet the tide is all part of sailing and I urge the planners not to be shy at starting races as early as 7:00 hrs if it makes for a more suitable tide.

Would the Race Committee consider purchasing a small laptop computer for the Race officer's bag so that race results can be calculated more easily and less prone to errors. The laptop could be pre programed with the hadicap lists and a spred sheet set up requiring only the boat name and elapsed time to be entered. The spread sheet pre programed to do all the necessary calculations would produce results in minutes. If then entry was made available to the office, prints could be run off for the notice board before all the skippers got to the club!.
A small laptop for this sort of job wouldn't cost much more than £100.
How about it Committee?
