Hi, I'm looking for a 5th crew member on Olivia Anne VI for the Quarter Ton Cup. The event is 3 days of racing based out of RCYC in Cowes against 25-30 similar Quarter Tonners. Its a great fun event with a friendly atmosphere and a mix of top international crews and club boats, and some good social events to boot. If interested to learn more, call me on 07717 801068 Cheers Jan.

Wondering if anyone will be departing from Shoreham on the morning of the race, rather than going down to Brighton the night before? 05:00 lock-out, or cutting it a little fine..?

Fingers crossed for some nice weather, but at least for the wind holding till we little'uns get across

Help! I'm in need of 1 or 2 more experienced crew for the Quarter Ton cup on Olivia Anne VI -if anyone is interested in the idea of 3 days of very close, energetic racing (3 races per day) out of Cowes 14-16th of June, give me a call - 07717 801068
Its a fantastic event with some of the most competititive small boats/crews around at the moment (so we have our work cut out) - great sailing and a really nice atmosphere on and off the water.
If you wanted to check out the class or info on last year's event take a look at:

wondering if anyone else has plans to hire a liferaft for the Royal Escape, and if so, any recomendations - any thoughts on a organising as a group? Recall that there was a company doing a group drop to the club last year, but don't recall who, how it went!

Looking for crew for Olivia Anne VI this year - including the Sussex Regatta, Royal Escape, Quarter Ton Cup, Round the Island, and potentially other events as well as Sunday Round-the-Cans racing

Olivia Anne is a 26ft Quarter Tonner built in 1973 but totally revamped in 2000. She's got an exceptional race record including 1st Quarter tonner in 2007 RTIR, and many IRC wins round the cans and JOG, RORC races. We crew with 4, occassionally 5. As a small, nippy boat a bit of agility and tolerence for getting wet is required but everyone has something to do. If you've got dinghy experience you'll feel right at home.
No firm commitment for the full year required to join the team, we tend to keep the Sunday races flexible and rotate people, but will plan the 'away events' in. Give me a call on 07717 801068 or email me for more details (mailto:janthirkettle@tiscali.co.uk">janthirkettle@tiscali.co.uk), Jan.

Hi David - sounds like we missed a great evening and sail back on the Sunday (here I curse my work-inducted very low browie point tally which meant we could not stay over on Olly...)
Any news on results by the way Steve? I know if I can't be bothered to turn up for the meal then...etc, but keen to know after that long slog, and am doing my head in wondering whether we were right to go offshore in the hope of getting the sea-breeze, or should have crawled along the shore.....

Quote from: "djskinner"We were blessed by beautiful weather over the weekend. The race down was in light airs but we got in on the flood around 1430.95 sat down to dinner at the Arun Yacht Club-a record. Most of them came onto Moonlight Saunter for a cockpit party before being ferried over which tested out the sea cocks.Due to it being neaps we decided to delay the Crew`s Race back until 1600 which I know did not please some.Sorry but we were forced into a change of weekends to have the social function-so much a part of our Rally.Anyway a sand castle building competetion was organised in the morning which was won by Jennie & Sarah with an erotic mermaid.
Next years date has been fixed with HW at 1400 hrs so ideal for everyone but sand castle builders.
Thanks for attending in such numbers. It`s so much a part of what we are.

Hi All - wondering how everyone who made it got on in RTIR and any interesting stories to swap.
Had a pretty good run on Olivia Anne, although got beaten by a few of the lighter quarter tonners this time. Pretty horrible beat out to Yarmouth, but better then to the needles - enjoying the wind and tide a little too much as Ileft it too late to cut down and get inside round goose rock so went outside of Vavarsi. Great kite run down to st catz as the wind built. Bit of excitement tho as we left sandown bay for Bembridge - managed to get a bit of a roll going under our big kite resulting in a chineese gybe and one of our crew  ending up the wrong side of the guard rails - but doing a fine job hanging on. Had the unplanned but good effect of slowing us down as we binned the kite and turned round a little close to the rocks. Aside from a couple of tight moments squeezed between bigger boats short tacking up ryde sands it was a bit less exciting after that. Got killed once we came off  the island shore to cross the N finish line - barely able to get over the tide as the wind died and rain kicked in...still all in all pretty damned good day out and good night in Cowes after. Just need to straighten a stanchion or two before next event...

May 17, 2009, 01:26:56 PM
HI Steve, dumb question #2.....are the class flags going to be provided as part of the race pack at the briefing along with the boat numbers, or do we need to source those ourselves? thanks!

Many thanks Steve! Will be joining you in the lock, although due to the rather menial facilties on Olivia Anne, we will be jealously waching you eat your bacon butties whilst if we're lucky supping a coffee .....(violins please)

SYC General Discussion / Locking out

Might be a dumb question, but what time are people planning to lock-out on the Friday morning?
Here's hoping for a nice F3 all the way (small boat weather please!)
