Congratulations David, on being elected. I am sure all will agree with me when I say that the section will be in excellent hands.

Unfortunately, Sam and I are going to be in warmer waters than the Channel in 2008.  We depart Lanzarote for Antigua on the 17th November and you can follow our progress on our web log at http://blog.mailasail.com/imagine

More general information on the Blue Water Rally can be found at www.yachtrallies.co.uk

Hi Everyone.

Sam and I are currently in Puerto Calero, Lanzarote and will be leaving here on the 17th November to sail across the pond to Antigua with the Blue Water Rally and then on to the BVI.  We have an on-line website which gives information about our cruising in the Canaries this summer along with positions in Google maps.  For those of you interested in following us across the Atlantic, please go to the boat's website - http://blog.mailasail.com/imagine

(note: there is no www in the address).

We are sailing 2 handed. The distance is 2800 miles and should take us about 3 weeks.  We will try to update the site each day with information on what the weather is like, seastate, fishing, sealife, boat problems, and what it's like to cross 2 handed.  I hope you enjoy following us.

You can also send us free SMS messages of encouragement via our Iridium phone by going to www.iridium.com and sending a message to

Hi Sam.

Jeep in touch and our paths may cross.  We are currently in Lanzarote and will stay here cruising the Canary Islands until we hop across to Antigua in Nov/Dec.

Firstly, congratulations to Barbara for getting this BB up and running.  What a great idea. Why didn't I think of it!

Great to be able to see whats happing in the Club and keep up to date from so far away.  For those that don't know, Sam (my partner in crime) and I are currently on our boat (a Feeling 39) in much sunnier climes.  Lanzarote to be exact. See www.marinarubicon.com

We have been back here for 2 weeks now and it has blown 20/25 kts every day and been quite cold - sometimes as low as 22 deg!  Hauled "Imagine of Falmouth" out last week and spent 5 days sanding her bottom, re-antifouling and polishing the topsides all in 20+ kts of breeze.  I had to check 2/3 times that Sam had not been blown off the tressels.

Anyway, all was well and we went back in the water last Friday.  Celebrated on Sunday with a sail round to a local bay and dropped anchor for lunch. Still too cold for swimming though.

Weather has changed today - wind gone round to the East and we now have a real hot wind from the Sahara and the temp has shot up to 29/30 deg.  Had to get the windscoop out to get some draught in the forward cabin - think it's going to be hot tonight.

Perhaps you could set up a section for those SYC members who are sailing abroad so we can keep in touch with each other.  We bumped into Tom Mulligan in Gran Canaria and exchanged yarns. He was still smarting about the Royal Escape (oops!) - no not really.

Anyone for some sailing in the Canaries?  Jon :D
