I remember seeing a paint-on rope treatment for sale recently which claimed to improve grip and wear resistance/life in clutches etc; believe it was 'Spinlock RP25' - wondering if anyone has used this, any thoughts on this.

Sailing Section General Discussion / Singlehanded Race
September 09, 2008, 04:25:14 PM
There were only 2 brave/foolhardy souls that turned up for the singlehanded race (maybe not a suprise given rain, thunder, lightening), not to forget our esteemed race-officer.
Any chance of re-running this later in the year, if there were enough takers that is - any interest in this guys?

Sailing Section General Discussion / Sussex Regatta
July 07, 2008, 08:40:58 PM
Anyone know if there will be special locking arrangements for the Sussex Regatta, or just 09:00 lock?
Here's hoping for some normal summer weather; Saturday was great but did anyone brave Sunday at Btn?

Sussex Regatta / Regatta - mark co-ordinates
March 20, 2008, 10:14:38 AM
At the risk of asking a dumb question - are the co-ordinates for the marks in the SIs given as Deg Min Sec or Deg Min.min?
There again, they'll probably all be in difference places by Saturday given the forecast...

Crew looking for boats /
February 13, 2008, 03:10:58 PM
Hi Simon : see my entry for Olivia Anne under the "crew wanted" page - think we'll be right up your street. I'm looking to get out in March, including the Sussex Regatta if you're not otherwise committed on Moonlight. Give me a bell if of interest.
Cheers

Looking for crew for Olivia Anne this year - including the Sussex Regatta this March. Beyond that, Sunday Round-the-Cans and potentially Quarter Ton Cup, Round the Island, and other offshore/solent events later this year and beyond.

Olivia Anne is a 26ft Quarter Tonner; she's got an exceptional race record including winning Quarter tonner in 2007 RTIR, and many IRC wins round the cans and JOG, RORC races. We crew with 4, occassionally 5. As a small, nippy boat a bit of agility is required but everyone has something to do. If you've got dinghy experience you'll feel right at home (but less wet), although experience less critical than enthusiasm.
No firm commitment for the full year required to join the team, we tend to keep the Sunday races flexible and rotate people, but plan the away events in. Give me a call on 07717 801068 or email me for more details (mailto:jan.thirkettle@zoom.co.uk">jan.thirkettle@zoom.co.uk), Jan.

December 17, 2007, 09:36:52 AM
Hi,
I need to get an out of the water survey done on Olly over the winter for my insurance company as its been a few years since the last one. Can anyone recomend a local surveyor, or offer any advice? Much appreciated!

You got me convinced - time to shake some of the slime off the hull after too many weeks ashore (Olivia Anne)!

Thanks for the tips Robin - time to do a little research I feel. A lot of the guys have gone with Quantum, but I'll do a little more digging.
More time to save up too.
Cheers

Quote from: "Robin Stevenson"Hi Jan

What you get out of a new set of sails will depend on your input and the input of the sail maker.  Thus it is essential that you find a sailmaker you can get on with.  This is more important than anything in my view.

Olli is a quarter tonner right?  Find out who's rocking in that world and look hard at the sail maker they use.  Most makers do a good job...the all use very similar design software.

I use North, but before that was with Sobstad...I only changed cos the guy I dealt with moved to North.  If you do choose to talk to North, give them a call and ask for Jeremy Robinson.  Top guy and very easy to talk to.

Good luck and have fun.

Sailing Section General Discussion / New Sails

Folks,

I'm thinking about treating Olivia Anne to a new suit of sails - something mid range-ish, nothing too fancy (budgets...)
Does anyone have any thoughts/advice/favourites/war stories as regards sail lofts, service, prices and technologies? Also any tips around when to buy to get best price?
Thoughts much appreciated!
Cheers

Hugo,

Not a cheap option, and maybe overkill but you can rent mobile cherry pickers that you tow behind your car and can set up whereever you like and whizz up in-in the region of £1-200 per day though from folk like Travis Perkins.

Quote from: "Hugo Fagan"My 22ft Sparta is on a club mooring at Southwick.  Last week I foolishly managed to pull the jib halyard completely out of the mast and I am trying to devise some way of putting it back which doesn't involve going up the mast or the mast coming down.  However, I'm more or less resigned to the fact the mast will need to come down.  Never having carried out the procedure before I'm more than a little apprehensive – not least about setting up the standing rigging correctly afterwards. I'd appreciate any suggestions or guidance.

Thanks Tim.

We had a bit of a blinder of a day, conditions really suited us - well chuffed to beat the other quarter tonners after a not so great result in the quarter ton cup (no wind tho...). Managed not to hit the Varvassi in the process....

We legged it at 7am on Sunday to get back to Shoreham, had a fast but wet run. Hope your return went well - serious milage for you guys in the 3 days!

Saw Mojo retired - what happened Robin?

Quote from: "Tim"well done jan great result didnt see you all day now know why.
